GP down south coordinates Aboriginal Health Services in the towns of Manjimup and Collie. Each town has dedicated Aboriginal Health workers who assist Indigenous clients in accessing mainstream medical services.
Developing strategies and providing resources to improve the health and wellbeing of the local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander (ATSI) community is a priority for GP down south. The GP down south local Aboriginal Health workers help to reduce the cultural barriers and differences that the ATSI population faces when accessing health services. They provide an appropriate cultural bridge for both the Indigenous clientele and the health providers in Manjimup and Collie.
Our health workers can assist you with;
• transportation to doctors appointments
• facilitating home visits
• in accessing allied health services (physiotherapy, counselling etc)
• attending health service appointments with you.
During the course of the year the Aboriginal Health Workers will also be running various workshops and activities for your local community. These activities aim to improve Indigenous Health and to promote health awareness within the ATSI community. Upcoming activities are listed below.
