Mental Health Programs and Resources

Mental Health Services

Throughout the Peel and South West regions, GP down south offers a range of free counselling and mental health services for children and adults in need.

There are a variety of services available including a service for those  people who don't necessarily have a mental health issue but require counselling to those who have a diagnosed mental health issue.  The eligibility criteria and requirment for each program differs depending on the region in which you live.  Access to these programs is via a referral from your GP. In some cases a mental health care plan will be required to be developed with your GP.

If you feel that you could benefit from a service, your first step is to make an appointment with your GP to discuss your options.

GPds Residential Aged Care Counselling Service

Through the Aged Care Access Initiative GP down south is offering a free counselling service for low care residents with mild mental health issues, i.e. anxiety, transition issues, grief and loss.

Commonwealth funding covers payments for clinical care provided by Allied Mental Health Professionals in Residential Aged Care Facilities where these services are not currently covered by Medicare or other government funding arrangements.

Referral for the service is via visiting GPs only.

Allied Mental Health Professionals will visit residents at their aged care facility. Initially sessions will be one-on-one however, it is envisaged that in some cases and as appropriate, group therapy sessions may also occur.

This service is available to aged care facilities in the South West towns of Busselton, Margaret River, Augusta, Pemberton, Manjimup, Bridgetown, Boyup Brook and Nannup.
