The Peel Youth Medical Service (PYMS) Health Hub has now become a reality with both state Liberal and Labor parties committing a further $4.9 million to complete construction. This bi-partisan project enjoys support from the local community as well as all 3 levels of government.
In January this year, the WA communities of Preston Beach, Waroona, Yarloop and Harvey were tragically affected by devastating fires. In partnership with GP down south, on Sunday 27th November, Black Dog Ride gathered at Preston Beach and road around the fire zones of Yarloop, Harvey and Waroona and met with the locals to raise awareness of the mental health support agencies that are available to them.
In partnership with GP down south, Black Dog Ride Around The Fire 2016 is raising awareness of the mental health support agencies available and how to access these services. The Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull, the Minister for Health Sussan Ley and the Assistant Minister for Health and Aged Care Ken Wyatt visited PYMS to confirm their election pledge of $2million for the PYMS Health Hub and also announced us as one of 12 national suicide prevention trial sites. GP down south in collaboration with WA Primary Health Alliance (WAPHA) are commencing an innovative nine month pilot model for the delivery of primary mental health services commencing Monday 25th of July 2016.
